The former head of Binance, Changpeng Zhao, also recognized as CZ, who remains a key stakeholder, has expressed his thoughts on the story concerning North Korean cybercriminals possessing a considerable quantity of Bitcoin.
A snapshot from Arkham Intelligence, disseminated by X user @Berit1p, an associate of Binance’s product advisory council, indicates that the Lazarus Group, a cybercriminal enterprise linked to North Korea, possesses an astounding $1.16 billion in Bitcoin, equating to 13,518 BTC. This considerable possession situates North Korea as the third-largest governmental possessor of Bitcoin, surpassed only by the United States and the United Kingdom.
To provide some context, the UK government possesses 61,245 BTC, assessed at over $4 billion. These Bitcoins were confiscated by the Metropolitan Police in 2018 from persons implicated in a Chinese investment Ponzi scheme.
