The leader of Washington’s Fire and Emergency Medical Services announced on Thursday morning that a US Airways (AAL) aircraft with 64 people aboard collided with a military helicopter, and no survivors have been discovered.
“We are now progressing from a rescue operation to a search phase,” stated John Donnelly, the department’s chief, during a Thursday press briefing – which was televised by CNBC. “At this juncture, we do not anticipate any survivors.”
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who was inaugurated on Tuesday, stated at the press conference that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) would be collaborating with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to examine the remains of the American Airlines aircraft.
