A blockchain security company called SlowMist has discovered a phishing scheme aimed at blockchain programmers using bogus job advertisements on LinkedIn. Bruno Skvorc, a blockchain specialist, shared his experience on X, warning of the risks lurking in seemingly real job postings.
The fraudsters impersonate blockchain gaming and staking platforms such as Socifi, enticing victims with lucrative opportunities. The hiring procedure appears professional, but the trap is set when the con artists provide harmful code via a Bitbucket repository.
SlowMist’s probe revealed that the code contains malware intended to steal private user data. Once performed, the malware connects to a command and control server, secretly extracting information from the system, SSH keys, and even credentials stored in browsers on macOS. It cleverly circumvents security tools such as Little Snitch to go undetected while stealing crypto assets.
To guard against such scams, SlowMist recommends caution when receiving job offers and downloading external code. Always check the validity of the source and be wary of uninvited code repositories.
It is always necessary to confirm the recruiter’s identification through official channels. Businesses should also implement advanced security protocols to prevent financial losses and credential theft. Before taking any additional action, carefully examine shared repositories and refrain from running scripts without investigation. Furthermore, businesses should carry out phishing simulations and keep an eye on code repositories.
SlowMist advises users to stay alert and protect their private data from cybercriminals as LinkedIn phishing scams continue to proliferate quickly. The platform suggests that the community utilize cutting-edge security instruments to shield their sensitive information from hackers.
